At one time Southport pier used to be open into the evening; people would wander along and enjoy watching the sun setting and the lights coming on in the buildings.
Then they spent some money on it and bought a new tram fitted with an annoying beep which goes off permanently when there is any danger the thing is going to move.
Now they lock the gates in the evening, presumably for reasons of health and safety. No pleasure is allowed after 7 on this pleasure pier.
This shot was taken on an evening which had seen a cloudless blue sky gradually turn golden. I've tweaked the contrast and that is about it.
I shot it to convert to b&w, then decided I like the tones too much.
Thanks for looking, hope you like it, all feedback welcome.

Really like this, together with the commentary
Great colours and lines. I like this a lot.
Very good composition. I like the bright reflections and that golden section of paving on the left.
yeup. like it alot...
I know it's such a shame that we can't wander down there after 7, a coffee & play on the penny arcade.
What gorgeous light, like the perspective too! well seen and taken
Frustrating as I'm sure there are plenty more images available with the light at that time of day.
It does appear to have the right ingredients for a mono conversion with all the shapes and tones but you're right to keep it in colour here.
I'd be inclined to crop it ever so slightly on the left, but apart from that it works well for me. And I agree that keeping the colour was a good idea.
Gorgeous golden tones and strong silhouettes. Love the repetitive curves with the lamps in the middle. Flipping health & safety...you've done well despite their best efforts!
Thanks very much everybody.
Conrad yes I know what you mean. I have cropped quite a bit off the left but was worried about losing the composition in an effort to get rid of messy bits.
Excellent treatment. Beautiful lines, gorgeous colour. Simple and very effective.
Keeping the colour amkes this really stunning!
Thanks Chris and Jan
lovely lines and curves against the golden glow makes a wonderful image of great beauty
Love the feel to this Ian, but t he old health and saftey issue ?????????? thats killed off more pleasure than it has done good i reckon.
Cheers Pete & Dave. Yep H&S has a lot to answer for Dave.
Wow that's a beauty!!
Good idea to leave the colour, lovely light, great silhouettes.
