  • lion colchester zoo

Good photo, took one myself at Colchester Zoo. Would have cropped in tighter to the lion either with your lens or in some editing software as you have caught a good pose. Keep it up.

  • Early Morning

Just a quick word of thanks for the comments on this photo.
It was taken around 6:30am while we were up in North Norfolk just outside Cromer. It is actually overlooking a deer park. Very cold, frosty with plenty of mist so definately a bit creepy when walking through the woods to get there. However getting comments like the above makes it all worth while.

  • Blue Tit

    Jack, it is the Canon 100 - 400mm 4.5 - 5.6L. Flash is the 580EX.
Great lens but a tad heavy when hand held for a while.

  • Rialto

Excellent shot. Always difficult with flood lights and whether or not they burn out large chunks of the scene but you have controlled it well. Image has a 3d feel to it...great place can't wait to go back.

  • Going, Going....

Almost got it spot on. I would have added either a touch of flash to get the image a little sharper and or increased the ISO up a few notches. Not easy to get this kind of shot right but good attempt anyway. Also maybe move the feed towards the far end of the table so the background is just the bush with a little of the table in the foreground. Regards..

Thanks for the comments so far. It is always encouraging to read the feedback. This was probably the last shot of the day as light was starting to get a little low. I had the camera on a tripod with flash and a remote trigger attached. The whole thing was covered in a camouflage netting, not sure this made any real difference. I have a seed feeder hanging just to one side of the branch in the pic full of Thistle seeds to attract the finches. The really technical bit was just waiting for the right time to trigger the camera. Glad to be using digital otherwise this would cost a fortune. Flash was set a 250, Lens at F8 and shutter and ISO 200.

  • Sweet - Totally

Thanks for the comments so far. To get this I did take quite a few shots and spent an hour walking around the bush. I used on camera flash set to F16 with the lens stopped down to F13 and ISO 200.

Great shot and love the colours. Maybe the focus around the eye could be a tad sharper, nevertheless a great shot.

  • poser

Great shot with excellent detail. Maybe would have cropped in a little tighter to loose some of the blue sky resolution allowing.

  • Blue tit

Great shot. Intersted to know how you set up the flash and how it was triggered? Also, I have found when taking pics of birds to move the af focus point away from centre, if you are able to do this, so it keeps the head sharp. Still a bit hit and miss but seems to work. Looks like focus is on the wing more than the head, still a great shot though.
