All Mikbee's Fault!

By LynneJoyce
This is all Mikbee's fault, after suggesting that one of the images from my last post would be better in Black & White, I started experimenting with this format which those of you who know me will know is definitely not my forte. Anyway, here they are, all taken on the photography course last Saturday at Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds and post processed to mono in response to Mick's suggestion.

OK I sneaked in a colour popped one and a duotone as I can't be completely colour free, and there is even an almost mono straight from the camera that needed no processing, apart from a frame of course. Lets see if you can spot which one that is. I have tried to get as many different moods out of this strange format, even some grim, gritty and arty ones. Let me know which ones you like if any.

Won't be around much for a couple of weeks as we are off on the journey to Spain in just over an hour! Wheeeeeeeeee, sun sea and .......... solicitors, bankers, builders, gardeners and all the other stuff involved in restoring a property out there!

V's 6, 9 and 13 are my favourites, Lynne, but all are excellent. Have a great fortnight away, hope the weather there is as good as it is here, and that you spot plenty of small critters to photograph Smile Carol

Super collection and number 13 is my fav.
I'll bet they're better than you expected, or you've been hiding a talent under a bush.

Not just one but fourteen decent images.

A great set of monochromatic images and impossible to pick a favourite. Puzzled by No. 5 which does seem out of place but no doubt you have a good reason for including it probably the one straight from the camera Smile

An extremely well observed and captured collection of high quality imagery Lynne. If I were to choose a favourite it would have to be image 3 and 12 "superb photography which should be applauded"

Oohh...I'm glad Mick planted the seed, Lynne, 'cos there are some doozies here.

When I reached V3, I immediately went, "This is gonna be my favourite" when I saw V3. And THEN...V12 became it later on Grin

Is V12 the almost mono?

I also really like Vs 5, 8 and - of course - V13.

So glad you did these and uploaded this superb set Smile

The B and W presentation does seem to be right with so many of this enormous set, Lynne, there being a substantial range in contrast. I quite like seeing the original colour versions too, and then male a judgement. The image that really jumps out at me though is V 13, very closely followed by that beautiful sky in V 9.

I am not much of a mono fan, but these exceed in quality much of what I see regularly-- 12 and 9 are especially fine!!

Enjoy Spain

I think V9 may be the straight-from-the-camera one, if not V14. I like the colour-popped one, but tend to agree with others about a favourite.............V3.

Well if Mick can eschew colour, anyone can...
Good set, you've homed in on what b&w can achieve, conveying structure, lines. V3 my favourite for wonderful tension in the diagonals, pushing and pulling against each other.

Quite a variation in favourites here Lynne.
I like the portrait in V5 - quite natural looking.
V3 & 12 with slight variation.
I love the textured bark in V2 but think V4 is extra special.

Yes,I do confess I had my ''camera club'' hat on suggesting mono Lynne.I do prefer to submit mono prints to my club and when I see what I consider would make a good mono print,I find it hard to take my camera club hat off !! I think my favoured one here for making a print would be V3/12.Plenty scope here for working on the light and the shadows. And I think this is the one straight from the camera.
If it is not.I shall eat my camera club hat !!
