Vintage Drummer

By Anacithidus
This is one of my absolute favourites.

The stage lighting had been set to a complete red and was a nightmare to get some clear shots out of, however this one had come out fairly well but seemed too boring. Quick change into monotone sepia and this is the end result

Great shot Ash, I like the sepia effect. This drummer looks like he means business!!

Cheers, it was just as the intro music was playing so he was ready to get started

Firstly Ash welcome to EPZ and what a great shot to start with. I have to say well done for getting such a clear shot under red lights, this can be really difficult. i agree the change to sepia has added to the image. A red image against a dark background does nothing for the viewer.

As just a suggestion I have loaded a mod with a slight adjustment to the mid tones to brighten the area around the drums to simulate the ceiling light shining down. Its not really necessary but when I adjusted the mid tones it seemed to be a nice variation on your original.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers, glad you like it. I think I prefer my version, it seems a bit dingier, but I do like how it changes it slightly, there are some other drummer pics I have which could turn out better like that.

I'm really not that good with editing, and to be honest i'm not too keen on it so I do very little, but it's lack of time in learning how to do it so any pointers, tips, clues etc will always be welcome

Hi, and welcome to the Critique Gallery.
I love working with stage lighting, I wish I got the opportunity more often, but it's certainly challenging. Sepia is an interesting move for a rock musician - I'd be interested to see the original though.
You say that you're not keen on editing, but it can make a big difference to pictures taken in difficult lighting conditions. In particular, could I suggest that you consider shooting in Raw. It does require more time and attention in editing the image, but the scope that it gives for work on colour and light makes it worthwhile. It's a steep learning curve but if this area is your main photographic interest it's worth considering.
