I took this last weekend in Amsterdam. This is the 'De Ooievaar' bar, close to the central station. This gentleman, Mr. Alex Ingen, the barman, was most helpful, and stood quite still for a few images (1/6th sec, ISO 800, f6.3), having moved his customers aside to give me an uninterrupted view.

I saw this over on the other site and was hoping you'd post it here, awesome detail. And a fabulous mono. Loving this.

Many thanks for the comments. I initially worked up a more contrasty image, but it did not do justice to this scene. Shaded too many of the little details. On both the two better frames he moved his head a fractionally (all the patrons were joking with him!), so had to correct the motion artifacts there. Andre

Wow this is environmental portraiture at its very best. The tonal range is exceptional and has been very well composed. Well worthy of an Andrew Hurley Gold Disc award! They are very rare you know, I only give out 1 a week!

I sure hope you had a beer after this shot, you certainly deserve 1 (or 2 or 3 or 4!)

Andrew.

Dear Andrew. Thanks so much for your award! I did actually have an Ooievaar beer afterwards - the least that I could have done in order to thank him, but had to scurry off and hunt bthe others in the party down. We had a photo outing to Amsterdam. Anyhow, en route to finding them I took another one, which I shall upload next. Regards, Andre
