Dyke Dawn

By conrad
I could use some help with this photo, which I took yesterday when I was out playing with my wifes DSLR. Theres a strange colour cast in part of the picture - about a third from the right, partly on the water and partly on the reeds and grasses. Im not a very experienced PS user, and would like some suggestions as to what to do with it. Also, Im not completely happy with part of the sky - the "empty" part just above the dyke, on the right. Any suggestions for improvement are quite welcome, and so are modifications. Thanks in advance!

Mornin' Conrad.

I quite like this. That 'cast' comes from the fact that frost and water will pick up colour refelctions from the sky and I think it was simply that, it fell in the blue/red part of the spectrum, and not a true magenta. Anyway I took it out. I deepened your blank part of the sky, but only very slightly as although as you say, it's empty, it still retains some colour. So although I've posted a mod - it's a very subtle mod.

Hey, thanks Keith, that comes pretty close to what I had in mind. Good job!

I like it, even without the very slight tweaks that Keith has provided.

now here's a challenge! Looks fine image to me on first viewing, but will attempt a mod, (best way of getting to understand an image IMO)

Thanks, Andy and John, for the modifications. Interesting to see the variety of options, although the differences are not too great. I love this modification option in e2, I find it really helpful. Thanks giving this a go!

Nicholas, thanks for your mod, too. I really have to start understanding that layers thing in PhotoShop better... Smile

This is lovely Conrad and interesting to see the modifications too.

Cheers for the comment on my grainy tulip pic, I've taken it down as it really did look too dark, will repost later.

Hi Conrad, had a little go as follows:- made duplicate layer, isolated problem area with lasso tool, used Image>Adjustments>Replace Colour using the Select Tool on the area near the far bank and then picking a Replacement colour from an area of water with no cast, changed layer blending mode to Colour, adjusted Opacity to suit, merged layers. Repeated these steps for the remainder of the problem area. If you do this repeatedly, concentrating on smaller areas, a more satisfactory result can be reached.

Personaly I like this as you have posted.

P.S. didn't have a go at the 'Empty Area' as I didn't fully read your request.

P.P.S. Just noticed Pete's comments in the forum topic you posted, almost how I've done it. :0)

Adrian, thanks for taking the time to make the modification and explaining it step by step. I hadnt even found the Replace Colour in PS yet - I was wondering why it didnt do that, but apparently it does. Smile Very helpful instructions, Ill try them out myself!

Great colours in the sky. If you cannot remove the cast just crop into a sky panorama.

Very nice evening view of this landscape, Conrad.
I'm not a PS user myself. I've studied the mods, and must say, a lot is possible.
Think i like John's mods, best.
