10 seconds at Dunstanburgh

By Anna_W
Okay, I know this location has been done to death but as it was a 7-hour drive to get there and I got blown over several times whilst trying to clamber over the unbelievably slippery boulders, I didn't want the effort to have been wasted Smile It's odd how a 10-stopper can make the conditions look so calm as there was actually a howling wind and heavy rain and most of the shots I took that morning had to be binned due to blobs of water on the filter and the resulting smears as I tried (not very successfully!) to wipe them off. (If anyone has found an effective way of cleaning sea spray off filters while they're out shooting, I'd be very grateful if they'd share it with me as I just seem to spread the mess and make it worse...)

Thanks for looking Smile

P.S. I know the horizon looks as if it's wonky, but the land slopes down to the sea and the beach is quite definitely downhill!

A wonderful shot. I don't care that the location might have been done to death. First of all -- I don't know that I've seen any of the others.
Secondly, this shot is so wonderful that it is well worth having been done by you.
I like the tonalities here -- with the black rocks and the gray clouds complementing each other. AND -- to my eye the horizon does not look "wonky." I think my eye sees the row of stones (at the middle of the shot) and psychologically, decides that the horizon line is perfectly horizontal.
I love the detail on your foreground rocks -- well worth all the trouble you encountered.
I know what you mean about sea water on the filter -- much more difficult to remove than fresh water (rain, etc.). I always assume that sooner or later the salt will permanently mess up the filter but better that than loosing a lens.
Very nice image here.

I agree with the comments above. A well produced image of an area that has been well covered by others but as you quite rightly state this is your image of the scene. So well done.

Very good composition with excellent foreground detail Anna. This viewpoint is actually very different to the majority I have seen from Cannonball beach.

I'm blown away by the foreground black rocks, stunning detail - they are a photo in themselves - seriously they really are a picture within a picture.

A great photo, well done for overcoming the conditions and coming up with a quite wonderful image.

Well done,

Brilliant composition and pp, Anna. They are the most slippery boulders I've ever scrambled across!
