I saw an ad on Gumtree for free 'Art' classes recently and decided I would give it a try. So I duly rang the the contact number and booked myself on the course.
When I approached for my first class, I was told to look for a bungalow-type building...they weren't wrong.
I was met with this building in the middle of nowhere and wondered what I had let myself in for. The building was shuttered and locked up and there was no-one to be seen apart from some beautiful trees which I started to photograph...never one to miss an opportunity!
Eventually I was greeted by a very friendly Rose, who I later found out was the Centre Manager. Once the centre was opened up you were hit by the lovely warmth of the heat and the colourful efforts of the children's art work on the walls.
Needless to say, I felt very welcome and at home in the centre. A few minutes later I was introduced to the artist, John. A great down to earth kind of guy running the free art classes. He provided all the materials to use and started me off with a bit of line drawing.....nothing detailed, just loose outlines....wow, this felt great I thought! I was allowed to use as much material as I wanted and experiment with the guidance of John looking over my shoulder....
Here's the ad I read and I highly recommend it to everyone!
