    Hello Guys,

I'm looking to buy an external hard drive for my PC to use for back up of my images. I'm looking to get 2TB and although it would be nice for the device to be portable, reliability is the main issue. My budget is around the £100 mark.

The main problem I found when looking for the above is that it seems that all drives I find have a lot of bad reviews from people saying that they failed and they lost all their files.

Anybody could suggest a good reliable product?

    Thanks

    Hi Steve,

I came across this site for third party inks:
    https://www.internet-ink.co.uk
Not sure how good it it but judging by online reviews it seems to be good.

If anybody else knows good quality and reliable third party ink supplers please share.

    Thanks

I'm not sure if any of you used this company before but it sounds good for the third party inks:

Thank you all again. I'm after A4 but if you can recommend any A3 format that would be great.
I'm also a bit worried about the inks price. Is there any second parties inks supplyers for Canon?
I'm using Epson now (on its last legs) and second party inkis saved me fortune Wink

    Hi Glen,

That is what I'm doing at the moment. I edit in sRGB mode and only convert to CMYK for web viewing as this seem to reflect the colours better on monitors.
As for printing I will follow your advise when test printing and will see what results I get.

    One more time thank you!

Right guys, I'm trying to go through the literature you've posted here for me... gosh... I need to read this stuff couple of times to get my head around it...

I also swap Elements for CS3 and will stick to that for a while.

On a positive note using method of trial and error I discovered that when I save images as CMYK they are almost same colour match in Photoshop as in other appliances.
I think I may stick to that as I believe that most of labs ask for CMYK colour profile anyway?

Does this make sense or am I off the tack again? Smile

    Many thanks

    Hello There

Thank you for the info it all seems to make a bit more sense... as I'm trying to digest it all Smile
Glen in regards to Barrie, maybe he does know what he's talking about. The thing is I didn't get his answer in fact it only confused me more and it seemed to me that the conversation was going to go of the topic. I was also desperate to get my answers asap but hey will have to take time to work it all out Smile

In regards to my screen, looking at description under color gamut it says 82% with color depth of 16.7 milion, whatever that means!?

This is monitor I have: 21.5" Dell Ultrasharp U2211H Widescreen LCD, 1920x1080, IPS panel, DVI, HDCP, Displayport

John I am working on PC. I'm not in front of it now but will try the steps suggested by you once back at home this evening. I will aslo take my pictures to other people to see how they look on their monitors.

If anyone knows of a course in colour management I'd be really interested in that!

Once again many thanks for help in this to all involved in this thread.

    Hello John

Strangley enough when I use the save for the web function the images start looking bad in the preview box in photoshop already. But after saving them they look ok when opened again in Photoshop but still bad (to much red) in other aplications.

Thank you for your help I will try again to redo all the steps as advised by your before. I think you are pointing me in right direction- appreciated!

    Best wishes

Yes that was the reason for buying the spyder. But the problem I'm talking about here is not relating to printing but colour difference when viewing images through diffrent applications.

To be honest with you your answer contradiced the person before (Strawman) who actually seemed like they understand what I say better then you do and made more sense to me...

So thanks for your help Barry but you're not really helping ta

Hello Barry I don't know who's talking about printing?
What I'm bothered about is the difference that I get from viewing my pictures through different software.

And yes my monitor profile does load into the video card each time I switch it on no worries.

To answer your qustion the reason I want to use other programes to view the pictures is that my customers are not going to view my work through PS, they'll use other common programmes that non photographers use and I'd like my photographs to have same colours in them.

    Thanks

I did that and there's no difference... still all looks goof in Photoshop but rubish everywhere else...

I'm just wondering maybe I need to load the calibrated profile into the photoshop or something like that?

As for Faststone I don't mind it showing me the colours same as windows all I'm after if for the customers to see the colours like I do in Photoshop :-(

    Hello Strwaman,

Thank you for advice. I did change the setting as advised by you (Edit>Colour Stettings> Allow me to choose) but same thing is happening. All looks good as long as opened in Photoshop.

As for the tools working in different colour spaces... not sure? I have Elements 5 if that helps?

    Dear Ephotoziners,

I recently bought new monitor and got a Spider kit to calibrate it so that I could get all colors correct for printing.

The problem I'm experiencing now is that the colors look great in Photoshop (after I tweak the raw files) but look rather different when opened in any other programme. Both tiff and jpg files seem to have more red in them when opened in lets say Faststone, Windows gallery or using any other aplicaion yet same files look great when opened in Photoshop.

    Can somebody help please?

    Many thanks

    Hu There,

I'm looking for a good monitor to use for my photographic post processing.
I read some of the posts on this formu... all of them give specs, what about giving a name of a make or actuall monitor?
My budget it £200 could maybe strech to £250, I believe this one is a good monitor:
    http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Dell+Ultrasharp+2209WA+22%22+E-IPS+Widescreen+Flat+Panel+Monitor+-+Black+REV+A01&osCsid=823bb6e25d0ea633e9f51ffa22536e9c

Any thought on that? Could someone advise me a different model?

    Many thanks
