365 Day 128 - Lily of the valley

Sad day today. I learnt this morning that a good friend who had breast cancer at the same time as I did 4 years ago has got it back. Then this afternoon I went to see a very elderly neighbour in hospital. Would you believe that the visitors' lifts are not working at Gloucester Royal and I had to walk up to the 9th floor!!! Poor soul thinks she is in Inverness and not Gloucester and wonders why her sister hasn't been to visit. I told her it was probably because of the lifts.

The result of all that is that by 7 o'clock tonight I still haven't taken my daily photograph. I have been watching some lily of the valley develop in the garden. The light was fading but I managed to take a couple of shots using a flash then brought some indoors to see what else I could do. I wasn't really focusing on what I was doing and the shots I took were not great so I decided to have another go with Elements. I used a 4:3 crop on each of the photographs, then made my document 4.5 high and 9.5 wide in the hope that I would get the borders about the same size. I had changed the background colour in the 3rd shot from the mahogany colour that the flowers were laid on to as near a green as the 1st shot, then used and adjustment layer and hue/saturation to colourise the final image. Still not perfect by a long way but I quite like the effect.
