365 Day 15 - Newent
15 Jan 2014 3:48PM Views : 361 Unique : 315Another driech day, as my mother would have said and for the benefit of anyone south of the border; overcast, miserable, drizzly, cold. Nonetheless, jobs need to be done and photos taken so I am off to the bank in Newent, a small market town on the edge of the Forest of Dean and about 4 miles from our village, probably most famous these days for the annual Onion Fayre, held on the second Saturday in September. It is also home to my local camera club and a super second hand camera shop which I'm probably not allowed to name on here but will share with anyone who cares to send me a message
In its day, Newent was a thriving market town with a good number of half timbered buildings including the old market house, seen here. Today it has its fair share of newish estates, derelict buildings and closed shops but there are still some gems around if you care to look. Had it been a fine day I would have taken Isla and gone for a walk round the lake but today, it was the bank, the greengrocers, a quick photo and back to the car!
