365 Day 156 - Preston Mill

Today we collected Mother in Law from Haddington and headed a few miles along the coast road to East Linton where we visited Preston Mill, an old water mill now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. The exact age of the current mill is not known but a mill of some sort was first recorded on his site as early as the 16th century and it is thought that the oldest part of the current mill dates back to the 17th century. The original mill building was probably a single storey building and it has been added to at least 3 times since, with the original thatched roof being replaced by tiles in the late 18th century. The mill operated up until 1959 when the last miller died, by which time it was no longer commercially viable. A really interesting little place and well worth a visit.

So, Preston Mill is not in Preston, just like Leeds Castle is not in Leeds !

What an interesting looking building, think I could spend ages there getting shots from all different angles Smile

I did, Jeff, including inside the tower and the water wheel which is at the back of the real building. Just wish I'd brought my laptop so that I could have played around with the levels more!
