365 Day 197 - Monkshood

Another marathon task to update my blog with photogrphs from the last few days, hampered by calibration problems but that's another story.

Aconitum napellus is one of the most toxic of all garden plants, aparently with an unpleasant taste should you eat it accidently, I dont think I'll try! Their tall dark spires, not unlike delphiniums, flower from June through until the end of August. My granny always called them 'Monkshood' but I have also heard them called 'Wolfsbane'. I can understand where the monkshood comes from, you just have to look at the individual little hood like flowers to see the resemblence.
