365 Day 252 - Finlarig Castle

Just a couple of hundred yards along the road from where we are staying are the ruins of an old castle and mausoleum. Finlarig Castle was build in the 1620s by Sir Duncan Campbell, 7th Laird of Glenorchy or Black Duncan as he was know. Just to the east of the castle in an equally derelict state is the Breadlebane Mausoleum where the Campbell family was traditionally buried. Presumably the mausoleum had already fallen into disrepair by the early 1920s as Sir Gavin Campbell, the 17th Laird and his wife, Lady Alma are buried nearby. The first photograph is Finlarig Castle and the second, the entrance to the mausoleum.
