365 Day 52 - This week's Macro Challenge

The iris seed pods photographed at the beginning of the week have now dried out nicely and I though I'd have another go with them to try to get the texture of the dry husks. I think the mistake I made was leaving it until this evening so that I was dependent on artificial light and no matter how I tried I could not avoid harsh shadows. Had I gone into the greenhouse and used the flatter natural light I might have been ok but I didn't. Also, rather than put them into a vase or oasis, I tried laying them out as I wanted them on a piece of cream card and although I have been able to get some sharp images with the composition I wanted they are spoiled by the shadows. Do I have enough skill using Elements to select the bits I want, put them into layers and change the background? Only time will tell but for today I have resorted to this week's 'Macro Challenge' the theme of which is food so todays picture is half an orange!
