365 Day 65 - Bubbles

Day 65 so only 300 left to the end of this project! But what to photograph today? I played golf at Bristol and Clifton Golf Course and had intended something golf related. Half way round however the heavens opened and by the time we were finished I just wanted to get in and dry.

For a while now I have been fascinated by the 'bubble' pictures people produce; lovely shapes, delicate colours, so I decided to have a go. I have not done any research into this and that was probably my first mistake. I have a small opaque table top photography stand which I propped up on books so that I could put a table lamp underneath, used a coloured silk scarf to colour my images, half filled a glass dish with water and added some cooking oil. I got bubbles with different shades behind depending on the colour of the scarf but found that the fabric was just a bit too fine for the colour to be defined enough. I also found that the bubbles were smaller that I would have liked and couldn't get quite close enough, even with my macro lens, so the attached images are cropped more closely than I would have liked.

I will try this again with a slightly thicker background fabric and maybe with different oil. I will also try a longer zoom to see if I can get a closer image without so much cropping. Good fun though, these are my first attempts.
