365 Day 7 - My view of town

I had to pop into town this morning and as I walked from the car park to my destination I muttered to myself about what a dire place it has become. During that 10 minute walk I passed 7 empty shops, 2 empty pubs, 2 pubs that were open but you wouldn't want to frequent, 2 places I could get a tattoo, a 99p shop, an everything for £9.99 hairdressers, 2 pasty shops, a KFC, a McDonalds, 3 mobile phone shops, 3 charity shops and a couple of places you can borrow money. I went about my business and made my way back to the car park. Now whether or not I was pleased because I had bagged a bargain in the sales, was just looking forward to that cup of tea when I got home or maybe it was only because the sun had come out. Suddenly though I started to see things differently. This is the view along College Street towards Gloucester Cathedral. Lovely old buildings, all of which are occupied and I couldn't even see the scaffolding on the Cathedral. It made me think about how your mood affects what you see and yes there are some lovely spots in most towns, even if you have to look for them!

I still prefer Gloucester to Cheltenham for an afternoon's pottering and 'junk' hunting Smile Plus I always nip round the cloisters when I'm there just in case the light is good Smile

Dunstable's just the same.

I've got a folder on here, rather originally entitled "Dead centre," which is full of shots of closed down shops and businesses.
I began about three years ago on a Sunday afternoon, when I collected just over eighty shots, all within a twenty minute radius of the town centre.
Since then, I've photographed some of them as they've opened as new ventures and in almost all cases, Ive photographed them as they closed again.
