Black Cheeked Woodpecker @ work!

By annettep38
Each time I see this I have to giggle, hope it looks as funny to you as it looked to me at the time.
She actually picks the bottom of the branch and hopes the parasites come out on top. It is a common practice, but how she got up there surprised me anyhow!
PLEASE look at all three. No I was not very close, that is quite a radical crop, she was high up in the tree and I had to stand back to get a decent angle.
the tree is a manzana de agua, the woodpecker is called melanerpes pucherani.

Well I was blown away, many thanks to Colleen for the GEA and to Carol,Malcolm,Ronnie, Carole and Sylvia for the lovely awards for the hummingbird.
Yes I have got more, please don't worry, I'll keep posting birds from Costa Rica , the internet is certainly better than in rural France. We are already planning feeders and we will keep some big walnuts to make nest shells.

I like that rather original 'pose' upside down in V 1: fine set, Annette.

All striking images. Maybe a quick run through noise reduction on a duplicate layer and then reduce the opacity until the worst of the noise disappears.

You've had to squeeze everything out of that lens to reach these goings on!
Good story telling.

Lovely shot - says it was taken in Nicaragua, can you tell me where exactly? I used to live there and will be headed back in October for a week, followed by a week in Costa Rica, which I'm very much looking forward to.

V3 for me, Annette, it's the eye that does it.
These birds certainly move around a lot, so you did very well with these.
