Thanks Rob and Fred, and Fred for the mod, funnily enough I did start off with just a hand and pear, I have a few of these so might do one more, thanks again for taking the time to mod and comment everyone. K.

I do like this but I don't think it's one of your best K. I find her very white face is competing for attention with the pear. I'm not sure about the angle of the face either - there's too much "whites of the eyes" for me, they look a bit like they're rolling offence meant to Alex there!

Love the streaky hair though - v v cool. Smile
2 Aug 2005 3:42AM
Thanks Lauren, I agree it needs a bit more work, missed a few bits in the background. I had one done and then lost it so had to start again, should have spent a bit more time on it but I liked it. Alex does have big eyes so thats probably why it looks as it does, but this is a completely natural shot, her idea too. I tried colouring the pear but it looked odd so went with the natural pear, contrasting against the manipulated face. I'm trying some offbeat stuff, getting away from the standard portraits, have others I want to try and other ideas too, thanks for the comment much appreciated. k.

That's what I like about it...the very natural pear and its contrast against the almost whitewashed face. Each to their own though Smile

Nope dont like it.

Looking out of frame is juxtaposed by the pear but I keep thinking - WTF?

Far too busy - the 'bangles' or whatever they are called these days detract from the image - again all IMHO.

What is that on the RHS against the black background? and why the gap in the first place.

Its colourful all right but I just dont get it - sorry.

Definitely not one of your best. Again IMHO.

Whilst this is not my particular cup of tea (I am very traditional in my photograph likes) I can see artistry in the work of others.

I think this is a wonderfully artistic photograph and has excellent imagination. The pose is unusual but good, though I think the shoulder could look a little more relaxed.

In terms of "off beat" stuff - this is great. It must be very liberating, examining this side of photography. Well done and I look forward to seeing it.

(Man - that all sounds SO pretentious but it isn't meant to be. I just meant - it's artistic and good for it. Looking forward to the rest)

I must say this far from perfect K and looks very rushed and unfinished, as you have already admitted. I can usually find many little imperfections in a lot of your work, mainly just background untidiness.
This has quite a few things I could point out, such as between the upper lip and the septum looks odd because it blends with her cheek due to the high key style you have chosen, also the colour streaks go over the forehead and on the neck, the top of her hair has a harsh lighting patch making it look dry , her right arm and bangle is also harshly lit, and lastly there is a lot of untidy hair in front of her face. Other than that it looks fine :o) hope ya find my comments helpful K, and I've done you a mod with some of the things corrected that I felt let it down slightly ☼☼☼☼☼

2 Aug 2005 10:56AM
Thanks for the mod Rob, yes, never noticed the cheek before, I'm viewing this on another monitor at the moment and can see the bits you've pointed out, I usually add a curves adjustment layer to anything I do with my present monitor, but I didnt this time. Thanks everyone for the honest feedback, its nice to see. Also all those secret clickers, thanks too. K.

I like the composition, but....

.....The background is messy and whats with the pink splodge on the end of her nose?

Keep them coming though...

I like the pear, the pose, the five coloured hair, the idea, but that BG is a bit messy.
ah what the heck...can't see it on the 500pix version.

Morning K, first time in a long while I can take some time for a good look around. Problem with kids is that you dfo not see them for a few months and bam! they grow up again. Turning into such a little beauty, just like her mum!!.
Luv the 60,s feel to this. Sure, others have commented on this and that but the overall felling is rather peaceful and trippy in an old hippy fashion.
Hope you and the family are well.

To be honest the imperfections mentioned don't bother me much.

I find the eyes unflattering ( what makes a lot of the other pictures of your daughter) and the phot overcontrived. Just my view!.

BTW think the bangles add something.

This is great K, and congrats on the EC! Only slight crit (and it's not really that) is her face seems a bit flat, particularly when contrasted with the great highlights in her hair. Are they real - and if so was there a 'discussion' around hair dyes ;o)

There are perhaps one or two minor background oversights, but I think that some of the comments have been a little on the harsh side (though I respect peoples right to their opinions).

I think this is a wonderfully "provocative" image in that it challenges much of potraitures rules. And as some of the comments on this photo have proven, good art provokes disagreement and discussion.

Big click from me. Smile
