Speed Machine

This is the electron accelerator EMMA, taken on a PhotoWalk at STFC Daresbury Laboratory. Electrons are accelerated to twice their initial energy in this ring before being used elsewhere in the facility. The ring measures 16.6m in diameter and has 84 quadrupole magnets to direct the beam.
