Well actually, he was aware of the owl, and was getting a gun that he had stashed in the tree stump. Upon pointing the gun at the owl, they were able to come to an amicable solution, and are now best mates ; )
When I say 'aware of the owl', what I mean is that he had always longed to be an owl - something to do with the orange eyes and plumage tones ; )
Fact is, it's digitally manipulated, so you can draw your own outcome : )

Great captures Andrew, combined brilliantly to produce this well-processed image. I just love the way the squirrel is disappearing into the tree stump to collect his Kalashnikov! LOL Seriously though this is superb work - congrats on your awards.

I love this image. I went to see the BBC wildlife photographer of the year exhibition yesterday and this shot is as good if not better than any that I saw.
