Superb capture and composition. Wonderful sharp detail and plumage colours/textures. Great eye and beak detail and lovely background tones. You are so lucky to have been able to bag this one ......I'm still waiting.

Thank you for the confirmation, and comment.
It does get confusing with the finch family - some of the species have veery plain looking females, and then in contrast, the female goldfinches are almost identical.

Lovely shot and a beautiful comp Andrew, have to say that if you had used a larger depth of field to get all the bird in focus this would probably have made 'Photo of the week'. Not a criticism, just an observation,

Thanks Geoff, but I think the bg would have become more noticeable as a camo sheet if I had gone beyond f5.6 @ 400mm. It was starting to show in some other shots. Maybe worth giving the 1.4 extender a go, just to see what happens.
