This is an Investigator Beetle.

I've come across 3 of these in the last few years and 2 of them were covered in lice like this one.

This one was in Glen Trool forest, the other was in the Hermitage Woods in Perthshire - over 100 miles apart.

If anyone knows any more about these beetles and their little problems please enlighten me!

Gross. Great macro, but gross.

Never thought about something as small as a beetle having parasites, but that's nature for you!

I guess from the above comment that you're going to have to get out a bit more with the camera - good luck finding such interesting bugs in winter!

Another cracking shot with superb detail - well done again.

Brilliantly Detailed Macro...!

I've seen many bumble bees carrying beasties but not anything like this.

I'd have loved to view this "large".

This is so good why you don't have more interest in it I just don't know Smile

PS I see you are using the 105 VR macro how do you find it, I am thinking of buying this myself as my 105 Sigma struggles when I attach my closeup light kit to it.

It's a brilliant lens although Gomez was getting good results with his Sigma 105 too - check his Common Hawkers, same ones as mine just flown off to a different location. Neither of us use closeup flash - he goes with reflectors and I don't use anything other than natural light (want to try and record as natural shot as possible).

Thanks for your kind comments - I guess bugs just aren't everyone's favourites!
