I think, but am unsure that they call this stage "fiddlebacks" in the states????
..just something I may have misinterpreted from a novel once upon a time.

Yes, I believe you are correct and that in the US they are called fiddleback ferns - in Norway I think we just call them skogbregne (forest fern) - these are the ones that grow wild.

Gorgeous - bokeh, natural curves and LB blur blending to create a very dynamic, alive feel. Spring energy bursting through.

Anne, I have to agree with what so many have already stated -- this is a very interesting shot and the bokeh is absolutely wonderful. How did you achieve this?

Walter this is what Lensbaby does so well, have never been able to achieve this even with my 50mm/2.0 macro lens. Dappled light in the background/against the light and more or less wide open aperture - no photoshop hanky panky Wink I think you need to get a Lensbaby.

This is what the LB was meant to do, and you have used it perfectly, Anne. Frame full of green variations, bokeh, shade, light, movement...it has all you could wish for.
Floats my boat, ticks all the right boxes...whatever expression you want to use.

Superb Anne, these grow in abundance in our garden, been trying to get rid of them for the past few years but they keep coming back as we live in a woodland situation, have to do this as they seem to take over everything else,
Geoff.

A "Circanate vernation of fern" is a typical stage for a Botanist to watch & teach students.

Here the light is so good , try one straight one with 40/150mm Zuiko, if possible.

Using a long lens, even the Zuiko 40-150 which I have, does not render the kind of bokeh that the lensbaby does - I'm mostly using lensbaby these days. Thanks for your comment.
