This picture has a lot going for it. The composition is pleasing with the mill placed off-centre and that path of green creating a good contrast with the yellow rape. My only real criticism is that it is a little weak colourwise - especially the sky. I have done a mod where I selected the sky only and adjusted the levels I then gave the blue a little extra boost in Hue and Saturation. I then inverted the selection and darkened the foreground a little by moving the middle slider in levels a little to the right. It was all done very quickly and with a little time and care you should be able to improve on my mod. Andy

Nice mill this - I keep meaning to arrange a visit.
The pathway gives a nice lead-in to the centre of the picture, although there's nothing there when we arrive - but the the windmill is so strong an element on the horizon that we just know that's where the path must end up. So it works!

Like you said yourself, the sky is a bit weak colour wise, although full of detail, so it's a very simple matter to select it and use a curves or levels adjustment to help. I've posted a mod which does just that, plus burns in and de-saturates the underside of the clouds a little. Done in a rush and it's rather over the top, especially if you were going to print it, but at least it illustrates what I mean.

Oh, and you're absolutely right about getting the grads- it's a far better solution than having to sort it out on the computer, in fact essential for landscapes.
