very shallow DOF shot - I think the eyes are sharp, maybe a bit too dark to tell though?

I'd give it an extra stop or 2 in your RAW convertor so the face is brighter - the background may blow out, but for me, it's the face that counts most in these portraits

I like the composition, but as Ade says, it looks rather underexposed.

It would be a good idea to bump it up if you've shot RAW. I doubt the highlights in the romper suit would blow out that much even with +2 stops. The blur should make for a reasonable roll off in any case.

ok, thanks for the comments. I`ll bump up the exposure

Far better than your 'treated' version in terms of appeal. However, on this one you have some technical problems - a stop or so under exposed and the eyes, to me, are not sharp. Not like the other version, anyway.

v2 is much better, don't you think? The composition is very effective.

Paul, above is probably right that this shot would be in a class above were the eyes crack-on sharp.

I love the second version (not sure about the chin though); precious expression, cute subject!

The V2 is better, though your previous shot of Louise is better than both.

You are using the 50mm lens, so its a 1.4 or a 1.8, and fully open delivers a very soft look, which can work, but the eyes, or the nearest eye to the camera has to be the cameras focus point, and has to be sharp. Its better stopped down to f/5.6 or so for this.

Keep an eye on white balance also, - its a tad cool in this. Try shooting raw and adjusting white balance post processing, or use a grey card in a test shot as a reference.
Remember also to sharpen after you re size before uploading. In my mods, Ive sharpened the eyes and mouth using a USM setting of : Amount = 190%; Radius = 0.8, Threshold = 3, so it was really soft, suggesting you missed this step.

Ive adjusted skin colour to be a little warmer, and also loaded a mono version with a diffuse glow to soften the features.
Both are cropped to place an eye on a third.

Hope this is helpful,

Many thanks Willie, the modded versions are great, thanks for taking the time to them. Point noted about the f number, i`ll be changing it next time i`m taking some pics of her!!!
