Hi Mark and welcome to the Critique area and ePHOTOZine.

For a first ever picture of a sunset you've done remarkably well, great composition, great colours and some great sillouettes. You have the horizon a little under the thirds line but that isn't bad at all.

How can you improve the shot? Well for me I find the sky very colourful but a bit busy with clouds going in all directions. I would crop off some of those clouds from the top but not too much as to lose the lovely blue tones, maybe to the top of the big dark cloud. The colours are a little overpowering as well making the image a bit surreal so maybe a reduction in saturation may help a little here as well.

Otherwise a great first attempt and well done.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dave, just wanted to say a big thankyou for taking the time in writing your comments, I agree with the colours being a bit overpowering, i did add some vibrance but think i may have overdone it, i`ll definately reduce the saturation!!.

Many thanks again,

Hello, Mark, and welcome to EPZ. I personally like the intensity of the colours. Your silhouetted buildings are nice and black against the sunset sky, with the wispy black clouds echoing them. I would probably also have pushed the colours in this myself, but we all have different preferences. A strong and colourful image with which to start your portfolio.

First attempt, one hundredth attempt - this is good. Full saturation and an interesting skyline. So many people see a good sunset and shoot out of the back door complete with TV aerials and associated rural clutter.

This is very good indeed.
