Newark Castle

By Bainy
This shot of Newark Castle was taken on a bright sunny day (remember those?) last year.

I followed a magazine tutorial to get the effect you see. The sky was replaced before being converted to mono. I then added the blue hue and finally added the rain.

To get the rain: -

- Create a new layer and fill it with black. Make sure it is at the top of the layer stack.
- Go to FILTER -> NOISE -> ADD NOISE and use an amount of 400%
- Go to FILTER -> BLUR -> MOTION BLUR and use and Angle 0f 25-45 and a length of 30-50
- Follow the above three steps again but this time use a different angle and length
- Change the blending mode of the top layer to linear burn
- Merger the rain layers together and add another motion blur
- Finally change the blending mode of the rain layer to screen

Looks like a lot of hard work to me but well worth the result.
