Meant to Be

By marktc
Ok... I've had my bottom booted by a number of people.... Thank you Dave, Lillian, Kate, Ann, Walter, Barbara and Carol to mention just a few.

So sleeve's up, here's my rant!!!!!

Have a look at this... Its simple, it's meant to be. There's lots of negative space, there's meant to be. The water is smooth, its a long exposure its meant to be. I'm sorry if there isn't enough of a focal point to keep peoples interest, boats and ships just blurr during the long exposure, maybe I'll choose a better location next time, but then again maybe I won't. I know it leads from right to left, but that's the way I wanted it!

The image is about colour and light, the movement of the clouds, simplicity and serenity, its not meant to have the tiniest detail its a seascape. its not full of exciting action, it really isn't meant to be.

Thank you to EVERYONE who clicked and commented on yesterdays upload and to all those that have clicked and commented in the past, your support and the fact that you took time out of your busy lives to look at my humble image is truly appreciated. I have learned a lot about photography through the very generous nature of subscribers to this site and I can honestly say that I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for a select few on here (you know who you are) offerring their advice., to those I say thank you and I hope the effort you have put in to give that advice has been worth the end result.

I welcome constructive critism, but please do make it constructive. If you don't like it, I'm happy to hear that you don't like it but please tell me why in a constructive way and in the comments section, I can't promise to change anything, but it at least gives me a different perspective, just "I don't like it" doesn't benefit anyone.

Rant over, and if you've read this far, the rant isn't personal, its just how I feel!

I agree with your decision here with the letterbox crop, I think it works well for this image, very well done, Bill.

Hurrah! I love your minimalist images Mark. The tiny line of warm light on the horizon is magical and I love the soft tones. Lovely comp - it all works for me! Smile I look forward to more from you.

I have read your rant Mark and congratulations on achieving what you wanted with this image. It is a pleasing, tranquil easy on the eye composition.

Ann took the words right out of my mouth. Nicely done and nicely stated in your "rant."

That's quite a rant to go with an image full of calm and serenity, Mark WinkGrinGrin The letter box crop works well with the negative space. Yep, I probably would have reversed the image but that's just me... I'm left-handed Tongue

That's fighting talk Mark!
You're doing what you like and we all learn from your long exposures!
A lovely peaceful image, just enought f/g interest and you've been true to yourself
in not saturating the colour on horizon.

A lovely shot. As I read left to right I also look at this left to right and I find that the post keeps my eyes in the picture. So nice and calm too. Nice one.

Mark, I will say it.......this the type of shot you do so well and I very much like them. One for the wall. Long exposure photography in my book has many areas, this shot being minimalist. As my own understanding of composition grows, I now look through our shots with differant eyes trying to understand what each of us see............very nice mate and for that I would like you to have my UA.

Good for you Mark....I agree with you. As for me, you know I appreciate your work so hopefully nothing left to be said there. This is another fine example of some of your best. Serene, calming, tranquil and a pleasure to look at. All the elements are right and I like the the comp as it leads the eye in nicely to that beautiful horizon. And the letterbox crop is bang on.
Just one suggestion though.....perhaps you should change the title to 'Meant to Be' Wink

We are all entitled to what is called a Rant nowadays.............getting things off your chest.........more power to you.........If you like it that is all that matters.......I like this and I like your does it for many experts in the world..........I tried to help someone on here, it went wrong...........I learnt my lesson........although my comment was constructive not destructive I obviously upset now if I don't like an image I pass over it...........

Keep em coming Mark.........GrinGrinGrin
