The station fence

By mrswoolybill
Light, shadows and a flower. I thought that this suited the Saturday Shadows theme.
An interesting subject, I tried various strategies and this was the most successful, but it needed quite a bit of work on the flower. An attempt with a spot of fill-in flash gave better detail there, but at the cost of muzzier, less crisp rim-lighting and this for me is all about the rim-lighting against the shadows.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

the rim light helps in defining the shape, at the expense of some details of the flower.
I like the regular pattern of the fence well contrasting the natural curvy shapes of the flower.
well seen Moira, and taken
enjoy your week end

Yes it works Moira - and I can see a second shot from a crop from the bottom to loose the shadow to the left.
Lovely contrast between regular a nd irregular shapes SmileSmile

The rimlight picks out the flower very well and I like the way it seems to be peeking out from its corner. . A tricky exposure.

PS: Radio 4 - Saturday Live this morning. They're doing a piece on the knitted characters at Saltburn.

Intriguing... I though the posts were actual shadows at first. There's just enough detail in the plant which is nicely shaped with the rim light.

This is the most beautiful shadow today Moira. You were able to preserve the rim lighting very well.

Thanks everyone, and particular thanks to Barbs for her UA. We're back from Newcastle, I have been photographing the little Remembrance Sunday crosses with their personal messages, so very moving. They will carry forward to next year...
We got talking to a lady who was evacuated from Newcastle at the age of five, and visits schools to talk about her experiences as a child in WW2.
Helen,

Quote:I can see a second shot from a crop from the bottom to loose the shadow to the left.

I wondered about a crop, but didn't want to lose any of the diagonal shadow wedges at the top. And I didn't want to clone.

That's the trompe-l'oeil effect that I was hoping for, glad it's worked!

I like that light on the flower. Coming through the cracks so not to get sunburned.......Sandy
Semi abstract and wonderful blacks in this Moira,I hate to say it but there's a face in the flower probably a peeping tom in late bloom.

Very clever, Moira. I was taken in by the fence and thought it was a repeated shadow. The rim-lighting is so subtle and just perfect. This looks like an exposure nightmare, so you have done exceptionally well here - and remembered the dof at the same time...females and multi-tasking!
