Very Important

By bargee
Every time I look at the Forum, there seems to be somebody who has just lost all his/her data. As an ex IT person, I used to send this to all my new customers. If only one person takes note than it will have been worthwhile.

Been there, done it.......
I had 2 hard drives pack up on me, but luckily for me a mate retrieved the data.
Now every time I've got enough to fill a cd, its backed up.. Smile

Use a CD at 18 pence dose it matter?

He he cracking idea, excellent work and words, may this be a warning to many!! And sadly mostly true, I have my important stuff on an external drive and CD, chances of all three going west at the same time are slim (but not impossible)

Some CD writers allow you to add data to a CD even if it's a CD-R. If you can do it, always record your data in different named folders.

I add data to a cd-r as I'm going along. You just tick the box to allow further files to be added.

ps. almost forgot to comment. Very good and very true!

I agree with franken - do it as you load it.
Like the idea of the image as well.

I had a simultaneous loss of two hard drives recently, but thanks to my obsession with regular multiple backups of all my data on external as well as internal drives, and imageing of my main drive, I lost absolutely nothing! But then I've been working with computers since 1979, so I learned the hard way Smile

So it shall be written.
So it shall be done!
Keep well.

Anyone know how to read a stack of CD back- ups that simply refuse to respond to the new set-up? Back-up? Foul-up more like!
When CDr technology improves, we won't need file recover! I just wish someone had developed the floppy to hold more data. So much more reliable. It's a good parable though!
