Acorn Weevils

By barrywebb
Mating Acorn Weevils (Curculio glandium). A 60 shot focus stack using a tripod and manually rotating the focus ring over 6 seconds, shooting at 10 frames a second. I had set myself the challenge of getting Acorn Weevil shots this year and I finally got this shot. They tend to shy away from you as you approach with the camera but these two stayed put having other things on their minds! The version is a head on view.
Thanks and appreciation to Karen, Patricia, Alfie, Norman, Mike, Geoff (simmo) and Geoff (gwood) for awards on my Chalcid Wasp shot which I came across whilst looking for these guys.

Fabulous Barry! I've had an interest in entomology since listening to a series of George McGavin lectures on the QM2 and your photographs really are stunning.

Great details and what a snout they have, which I suppose is for getting into the acorn?
