Digger Wasp

By barrywebb
A Digger Wasp, ( Ectemnius cephalotes) also called the Big-headed Digger Wasp. We arrived early at Waterperry Gardens near Oxford. I was lucky to find this Digger Wasp in the garden centre area resting on one of the Dahlia blooms. It had probably spent the night there and still hadn't warmed up enough to take off. I managed to take quite a few shots before it eventually warmed up, had a quick clean up and finally flew off. The version is a front view which shows off it's powerful looking jaws. Thanks to everyone who voted and commented on my Ruby-tailed Wasp and a bigger thank you to Karen, Pamela, Sawsengee, David, Tony, Derek, Brian, Ian, Barry and Michaelo for their very much appreciated UAs.

It has what looks like pretty powerful jaws and pin-sharp to complete the picture.
