Flight of the Bee fly

By barrywebb
I managed to get some shots of this Bee fly as it was hovering around me. It was a sunny day and I found that shooting against a bright sky didn't work, so I used a hedge that was in shade as my background, which gave a much more pleasing result. As before I used a 70-300 zoom with an extension tube, set to 300, using manual focus set to the closest focus. I then had to move myself nearer and nearer to the Bee fly until it came into focus. Focus peaking worked a treat using this method. Thanks for the nice response to my feeding Bee fly.

Your craft paid dividends. Thanks for the shooting tip[s; I'll try them some day this spring, when the bees come out of hiding.
