Ovipositing Wasp.

By barrywebb
I came across this small parasitic wasp ovipositing on a large dead tree at a local nature reserve. It's overall length was about 16-18mm. It stayed doing it's thing for about half an hour giving me time to take lots of shots. This is a 35 shot handheld focus stack. I used a Raynox 250 close up lens on my macro lens. I have no idea of the id of this wasp. V1 shows it returning it's ovipositor into it's sheath and V2 is probably the male which was nearby. I took single shots with flash and a diy diffuser for V1&2
Special thanks to Roy, Alfie, Paul, Norman and Mike for awarding my last Hornet Robberfly shot.

Another great set of close-ups. I have learnt quite a lot from most of your postings of creatures whom I did know a lot about, so thanks.

An ichneumon wasp or fly.
A superb set of images and once again, thanks for describing your technique.
