Bee-wolf

By barrywebb
The Bee-wolf (Philanthus triangulum) is a Digger Wasp. It digs a burrow in sandy soil up to a metre deep which can have up to 30 chambers. It stores 4 or 5 Honey Bees in each chamber after paralysing them. A single egg is laid in each chamber and the developing larvae then feed on the supply of living Bees. We had a fascinating day watching a photographing dozens of these wasps bringing in scores of Bees. V1 shows a Bee-wolf with Honey Bee from a slightly different angle and V2 one without prey.
Many thanks to Karen, Jennifer, Carol, Niknut, Ian, Ian(Mac) Martin, and Rob for their UAs on my Jumping Spider shot and also Pamela, Keith, and Ian(again) for awarding the Long-legged fly shot. Much appreciation to you all.

An amazing mid-flight capture - it's hard enough photographing them on the ground, but to capture so much detail whilst it's flying is brilliant!

Brilliant images - never seen this scenario before - great detail.
I favour V1 for its angular flight.
