Chalcid Wasp

By barrywebb
Whilst out photographing Acorn Weevils I came across this amazing tiny wasp which is less than 3mm long. It is metalic blue, green and gold with beautiful red eyes. It is a parasitic wasp which lays it's eggs on the developing larvae of Gall Wasps, which it then consumes. The version shows it ovipositing into an acorn where the Gall Wasp larvae is already developing. These two images are single shots using flash and a Raynox close up lens on my macro lens, it's the only way to get up close to these tiny wasps.
Thanks to all who voted and commented on my last fly shot and a special thanks to those who gave their UAs
