The Buttermere Sentinels

By bazhutton
At the end of August the hills just start to lose their overbearing greeness, and the fells of Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks become emblazoned in the purple of blooming heather.

Here on Buttermere, the colours of late summer provide the backdrop to the famous Scots Pines 'Sentinels' that line the south-eastern shoreline, as the dawn light casts its rays over the momentary stillness of the scene.

Almost immediately after taking this photograph, the water was disturbed, the light flooded the valley and I headed up the hills for the day.

Great shot Baz but you should have made the large version 2000 pixels across so we could see it better. Smile
Panoramas suffer enough on here so you might as well give it your best shot.

I know, but I'd already prepared this for the web, & I dont have as much time as I'd like for epz at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to comment though, much appreciated.

Breathtaking and very well done. A different perspective on a popular scene. I am impressed with this image...not sure I could cope with the larger size!

Cheers

Astounding colours as suggested and composition is further enhanced by the very narrow crop....

Beautiful and stunning image. Congratulations on the HC. I may be wrong, but I think you could upload a new version as a panoramic (ie in addition to this).
