This is one of my favourite areas of Manchester that played a major role during the Industrial Revolution. It also shows a timeline of the transport systems used, from the canals taking coal to the mills and bringing the cotton back with them, to the rail network taking over. Many of the older buildings around the area were warehouses that held the goods either being shipped all over the U.K. or abroad or goods coming from overseas via the Manchester Ship Canal.
