Wreckage

By ianrobinson
This was taken in North Norfolk.
This effect is "cloud trails" as opposed to "star trails".
To achieve this effect you need 50 images which i took in raw, to take the images you need to take 50 images on a tripod, use manual, choose your focus point and lock it off by taking you lens off auto focus, I find using live view is a good way to get the sharpness and exposure right, then make sure you have a cable release use multi shot on your camera settings, then click the cable release shutter button and lock it so it takes multiple images.

You can use what I use but a cable release is cheaper, I use a "timer remote controller".
I then put them all in lightroom 4, I highlight all 50 images and adjust what I want to adjust with the image, Then choose the option "sync" and sync all. now you need to right click on the image and export to a folder in jpg format.
now close lightroom 4 and start up CS5, go through the options i give to stack the images.
go to files, scripts, load files into stacks, and the choose brouse, and brouse for the folder your jpg are in, click ok. you will see all your images stacking in the right hand side of PS.
you now go through each one and use the lighten tool in the layers section, once done then go to layer and flaten layer.
you have now stacked the images.
some images work better than others and some need more stacks than others too to get the final look.
I then use duplicate layer, sharpen, unsharp mask, and tweek the sharpness to desired effect, then i click on mask in layers and add this to the top layer, I make sure i click on this, I then use the brush tool and rub out the sharpness of the sky.
I then use another software plug in called "colour effects pro 4" to give a little drama to the image, and finally a little levels adjustment.
This what you get from those adjustments Tongue.

I appreciate all the info supplied as to how this image was achieved.........a great subject for the technique: the cloud patterns seem to emanate and radiate out from the top of the old cabin.
