What a catch!

By geoffrey baker
I doubt if I'll be out with my camera for a while so I've decided to upload some photos from my archives.
I have dozens of these Puffin photos but held them back because everyone was uploading them at that time, so they were just left sitting on my external hard drive waiting for a rainy day, well, it's pouring down at the moment so here's the first one Wink

One of the best shots of any kind that I've seen on here for a while, this is an outstanding image - and to think that's it's been hidden away on your hard drive. Is it a world to hide virtues in?
Again - outstanding

This is really stunning, lovely colours and superb detail in the fish and beak. But at the risk of upsetting everyone, I thought it could be even better still if the DOF had just stretched a little further to include the eye.
Thoroughly looking forward to seeing your "better ones" as you put it

I was just going to say shame the eye wasn't sharp but I've been beaten to it. Cracking colour and the beak is razor sharp, but, as Tim says, the soft eye does sadly lets it down.

Thanks for commenting Pete, you are right of course.
I did go over the eye with the sharpen tool to try to get it sharp but there's no substitute for getting it right in camera.

Doh!, I just looked through my Skomer photos and saw the other photo I took of this Puffin, it was taken at 330mm whereas this one was right in at 500mm, it has all the sandeels in it and the bird has turned more side-on and it all looks sharp to me, I should've used that one, I'm kicking myself now.
I'll upload it later in the week incase people think it's the same one.
