I've been wanting to share this photo since I took it and today I couldn't hold out any longer. I don't know why this is but I really like this photo. Maybe it's because I've seen so many fantastic seascapes/ landscapes and I reckon I might be getting close with this one. I don't really know, I just know I quite like it.

Furthermore, something has to be said of converting an image to black & white. Right now I seem to be converting images left, right and centre to black & white. In my opinion I think black & white images take out some of the complication colour photos can create. Conflicting colours or patterns can confuse the eyes and you may not be able to fully appreciate the photo. Black & white images rely much more on the composition and textures of the photo to keep the viewer's eyes fixed - thats not to say I don't like colour because I definately do.

It's a time and a place thing!

This photo is part of my Eastbourne set. As the sun was setting I managed to get out of work, finish dinner and down to the coastline (wasn't hard - it was only 50m away from where I was staying). The sun was setting behind me but there were some fantastic cirrus clouds (if my I can still remember my cloud formations from school geography) that were being lit up by the setting sun. Unfortunately in this composition the clouds were just a little dull so I converted it into black & white.

Converting it, I feel, has brought out so much more in the photo. The sky looks pretty cool and the groynes, a mainstay of any British coastline, give the photo a nice balance. It is currently resting as my desktop background!

Hope you like it as much as I do.

I can see why you like the shot - the clouds give a lovely lead in and you have some good lines in the foreground.

I think I would have tried to bring up the foreground a little more and emphasise the textures of the beach and the sea - but all in all a cracking shot.

A good explanation of your choice to go Black & White with this shot - have you had a look at the new Black & White Group .

I agree. I do wish I had slightly more of the beach but overall I'm not complaining.

Haven't had a look but will pop over now.

Thanks for the comment
