I posted a picture yesterday, it got 4 clicks then it disappeared? Why would it have been removed? It was only a picture of a nice harbour...

  • Commented on 'Army live fire shoot!'

I am driving south to photograph a live fire excersise by the NZ Army tomorrow.
It is an evening and live fire demonstraion (LAVS, infantry, artillery and maybe Helicopters)
    I have hired a nikon 80-200 F2.8 ED, a Tamron 2x converter, a monopod and a 4 gig card.
I also have my D70, a Sigma 105 and the Nikon Kit lens...
Any tips on how to approach this? Has anybody here done something similar before?
Will the monopod work for the night shoot or should i take my manfrotto tripod? (and maybe end up lugging it over hills?)
    Any hints appreciated...

    Hey All.

I am thinking about 'packing it all in', ie: quitting the Freelance Audio Engineer business, and joining the New Zealand Air Force as a photographer. It seems like a good way to mix my passion for Aeroplanes with my passion for photography. They have a world class 2 year photography course, then i would have to do 2 years active service after that...

    Hey

Has anyone here had the oppurtunity to compare the Sigma 105mm Macro EX DG and the Tamron 90mm Di lens's on a D70? Which of these will provide the best clarity, versitility and value for money?

    Cheers

    Thanks franken Smile

I dont want to make a 'beginners buy' but i can only afford NZ$1000 and i still have no flash unit ( i want an SB600), no Macro lens ( i am thinking Tamron 90mm F2.8 di) and my zoom is pretty stink... Guess it was too good to be true to replace two lenses with one Sad

  • Commented on 'Tamron AF 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 XR Di'

I did a search but found no mention of it here. Does anybody have experience with this lens?

Will the quality be better than my current AF Nikkon 70-300 1:4 - 5.6 G Series that i am really unhappy with?

I figure the 28-300mm would mean i would have to change lenses less and therefore keep my sensor cleaner, expesially in less ideal environments...

At NZ$795 it is worth twice that of my current lens...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Commented on 'Nikon VR 70-200mm f2.8 Lens'

I currently have the 70-300mm G series lens, and find that it is too slow at 300mm to get good shots in low or inconsistant light, which is where I take an awful lot of photo's. I often have the camera set up on a tripod at the FOH mix position at concerts (Where I carry out me real job). I am often nearly 50m from the stage.
I understand that the VR-70-200 lens is also great for aviation photography, which is where my passion lies.

Would this lens be worth the expense? This lens costs over $3000NZ Sad...

    Anybody here used it?

  • Commented on 'Sensor Clean Issue'

The specks and dust is getting worse with my D-70, and it needs a good professional clean, but I cant afford the servicing ($250NZ). I have read heaps about the issue of cleaning your sensor on the net, but so many people say so many different things that I am confused.
Should I try and clean it myself? I have sensor swabs and lint free cloth but I am scared of screwing it up...

Since I am self-employed aa a freelance sound engineer it might prove easier for me to make the move than if I had a full time job. But its still scary, and I'm by no means good enough... yet... Its hard to know at what point you are good enough to put yourself out there. My plan is to switch over to photography over the next 5 years...

What is the minimum number of photo's a place like alamy will accept? Could you be honest and say if you think they will accept pics of the standard in my portfolio here? I am new here and only have four pics up... I have about 100 recent pics of this standard and thousands from the past...
