HMS Richmond

By BERTRAM
This shot is the best one for me as it has HMS Victory in the background, no info needed for Victory.
HMS Richmond is a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy. She was launched 6th april 1993 by Lady Hill-Norton, and was the last warship to be built by Sqan Hunter Shipbuilders. She sailed from the builders on the river Tyne i November 1994.
Richmond was first deployed in 1997 to the far east as part of the Ocean Wave 96 task group. One of the most interesting visits she made was to the Russian port of Vladivostok, an important Russian naval base, where she became the first Royal Navy vessel to visit in over 100 years. Also that year Richmond escorted the royal yacht on the ships final leg of her tour of the UK prior to he decommissioning.
In 1998 Richmond participated in two significant NATO naval exercises and arrived in New York where she was involved in the US Navy Fleet Week. In 1999 Richmond was dispatched to the South Atlantic as part of Atlantic Patrol Task and underwent a major overhaul which concluded in 2000. In 2001 Richmond joined the NATO multi-national squadron Standing Naval Force Mediterranean. In 2002 she arrived in the Caribbean where she performed tasks including obligatory (fly the flag) duties to the Commonwealth countries in the region as well as undergoing trials.
In 2003 she was deplyoyed to the Pesian Gulf on Armilla Patrol where she relieved HMS Cardiff. She had arrived shortly before the 2003 Iraq War. When hostilities began, Richmond and HM ships Chatham, Marlborough and HMAS Anzac of the Royal Australian Navy provided Naval gunfire support during the Royal Marines amphibious assault of the Al Faw Peninsula, the first amphibious assult by the Marines sinse the Falkland War in 1982. Richmond remained in the region at the wars end and retured home in August.

I would like to thank you all for your support over these brilliant ships

Have enjoyed this series and all your superb write-ups as well as the images of these fine vessels. I knew the names of the previous 3, but not this one. Love the juxtaposition between the 2 great ships of war, the ancient and the modern. Well composed and captured image.
