A bit of a happy failure! I was at an amateur boxing event (supporting my lads mate) and I was having a few flash problems (intermittent firing!) I grabbed this lad as he awaited the decision from the judges. The flash failed, but I liked the way the ambient lighting caught the shoulders, hair line and ropes. Decided to convert to B&W to make the best of it, and it kind of works (I think!) Not sure about the seconds hand in the ropes on the left, but hey...

A brilliant image and although you are pleased with the final take ~ for me it's a shame you don't process a little light to the face to lift it to a winner!

VERY interesting image Andy - and great that you are posting again after such a long time.

Why 'VERY interesting' Mike?

Because it's compelling to view Andy.

The light off the arms and shoulders etc as you say, the (subject's) left leg and knee in particular, the solitary hand on the rope to the left of the subject, the minimal hint of facial detail - and good composition - make for a creditable image.

My compliments Andy on a great 'return' image.

('killing' that extraneous' highlight, top-left, would have helped a tad more btw... Wink)

Thanks for the input, your comments are greatly valued and appreciated. I pondered over that light for a while; I'm not sure if I left it in to create the sense of the light source, which it clearly isn't, but was also tempted to take it out! As an aside, the lad's mum asked me to rescue the detail, I did, but it doesn't have the same impact!

Yes it has been a while since I posted, I'll try not to leave it so long next time....
