What an excellent shot. there's not a lot you can do with it, perhaps crop at the top to lower the horizon which may give a greater sense of depth forward not overall and perhaps lighten the blue team just a touch.

Hi Bob,

We have dragon boats here in Melbourne and I remember sitting trying to photograph the intense action and it isn't easy. Yes I could get great shots of the boats etc but not the action.

If i remember rightly the dragon boats are quite brightly coloured and whilst you've caught the boats quite well, I don't think any of the colours have been shown. I don't think it helps with the boats so far away. therefore i would suggest that closer is better here and don't be afraid to get in close to try and capture the action even down to individuals in the boat if necessary.

If this is a regular thing then I would revisit this and try to get really close in shots with the oars blurred to show movement. Maybe a little more side on when they turn would help as well.

hope this helps

Interesting and well cropped. Generally succesful, but I would like more detail. Whilst this one is OKas it stands, I would think the photo opportunities were substantial and you should have others worth a look.

I'm afraid I don't get much of a feeling of action, here, as the boats are so far away and much of the detail is lost in the shadows. I agree that you need to either get closer or use a longer lens to fill the frame with movement.

A wider shot like this can still be useful to set the scene. However, I think it needs to be a bit wider still so the spray from the boats is fully within the frame. I'd also compose with the boats closer to the top of the frame, to give them more space to move into.
