Tern

By billma
Spent nine hours sharing a photography blind with a bunch of hornets on Sunday.

This bird was taking advantage of the wind by flying into it and becoming suspended in the air as it watched below for fish. A second after this was taken the Tern folded its wings and dove, from a height of 35 feet, into the water to catch a fish and fly away with dinner. Quite an amazing thing to watch.

I thought for a minute you had cracked up and imagined you had photographed a hornet Smile

Then I read further and realised you were OK and had just got a brilliant picture of a Tern. This is really lovely Bill, sharp. well lit and beautifully photographed. As you say, anyone who hasn't tried it doesn't appreciate what is involved in a shot like this - but HORNETS, strewth!

(did you get the other shot of the bird with its fish? Smile

Beautiful shot. These are one of my favourite birds - so graceful and such a lovely shape with their wings outstretched.

You have captured it brilliantly.
