The Boys of Armagosa

By billma
In the original photo the walls were a little overexposed. I liked the effect and enhanced it in PS. I am also into the gallery print thing for a while.

The Armagosa Hotel is near the entrance to Death Valley. I delightful place to shoot some photos.

I really like the feel to this shot. The text is a tad distracting, IMO but the bright white really works

Good contrast between the dark clothes and the white surroundings

High-key presentation works really well, although I agree that the text is a little distracting.

Great contrast of the children against the walls. Think your framing really suits it.
The overexposure works just fine here. The colors stand out enough, and good that the kids were dressed in dark. Don't agree about the text being a little distracting though... think it's very distracting ;o)

This must have been in the winter. With summer high temps averaging 46c, they would feel a little warm! I like the effect and the composition too.

I like the effect too, the dark colours of the boys clothing and the blue doors are a good contrast against the white wall.

I can totally understand how one would see the text as distracting if you were expecting to just see a photograph here.

I am in the process of experimenting with photography and learning new things in PS. This is in the gallery print style, which is a poster style based upon something Scoll Kelby had in a book. The text is part of the style as a whole and not just something added to a photograph. I find somthing about it appealing and will continue to work with it for a while until something else inspires me in a new direction.

I have learned about ten new great things in PS with this exercise including Actions, scrolling through text fonts and blending modes.

I do appreciate all of the feedback.

One of your best experimental images - I disagree completely with the text being distracting - it compliments the style of the image you were trying to achieve and adds to the overall effect of that style. Very well done, as always.

This is a brilliant piece. Love the bleached out walls and the presentation. Text is in no way distracting in my opinion. Paul

Nicely done, great contrast between the white white walls and the boys in dark colours.

As for the text, I find overall it adds to the image. I like the gallery print style you've been exploring, I must look into it!
