Moon Over Marazion

By BillyGoatGruff
Hi folks.

Still with Bank Holiday Monday.

After our lunchtime drenching in Porthleven, we made a leisurely journey back to the campsite with me scanning the map looking for a suitable pub to quench our vast holiday thirst. After several non-starters we eventually found one which looked (and was, it turned out) lovely. During our drinks stop, the rain stopped (amazing!) and the sky started to look quite promising, although I wasn't really expecting to shoot any frames - it being a Holiday Together and the first proper one we'd had this year, and Photography was to Take A Back Seat. So it was that I became stunned with astonishment when, upon depature from the Lovely Pub, my wife actually said,
"I recognise this road. There's a big layby that overlooks the bay"
"What!!" I replied, "You mean you actually don't mind me shooting some pictures????? Really??????????????" Clearly, I was stupefied by this staggering turn of fortune!
Well, I jumped at this amazing opportunity and rejoiced in such magnanimity from She Who Must Be Obeyed.
I didn't need to be asked twice, I can tell you! Wink

We duly found the aforementioned layby which did indeed overlook Mounts Bay, and I was able to let rip with the remote release.

I'm particularly pleased with this rendition: Partly because of the above stroke of luck; partly because I got set up with the tripod levelled in record time; and partly because I estimated correctly the use of the 0.6 soft grad (I only have soft grads on account of their horrendous cost!) and didn't have to test things out too much; but mostly because I nailed the exposure for the moon - very, very satisfying.

This a 7-shot stitch (portrait). Stitched in PTGui and finished off in CS3.

I like it a lot (probably the kiss of death! Wink), just hope it translates well at this size. Needless to say you need to see it large Smile

I'm off out in a bit, so will hopefully catch up later.

As always, thanks very much for having a look and for any clicks or comments you would care to leave.

Cheers

Bill

EDIT: The upload glitch has now been fixed, so V2 displays at the proper size! Hooray! Smile

Like this a lot Bill - nice processing too!

Have you tried one with a bit of "artistic licence" on the size of the moon? Just think you could make it a touch more prominent in the frame to allow for the wide angle as I can now reveal I did with this one - worth a try

Cheers

LOL! Paul

I must admit that I didn't even consider it!
Always a dilemma about how much "artistic licence" to use. Smile
I might give it a go, if I get time before shooting off this evening. It's a very good point, I think Smile

Cheers, Geoff!
There's just no pleasing some folks! Wink Tongue

Actually, I think Paul's suggestion worked well and will be the version I print (if I do at some point). Not sure why it wouldn't upload at the correct size...for a true comparsion. I've sent a report in to ask the question....

Cheers
