That Castle !!

By BillyGoatGruff
Many thanks to all for C&C on yesterday's effort. It didn't crash and burn as I expected it to, so no need for the parachute after all Wink

Today's offering to the Gods is, of course, That Castle. (Eilean Donan, for the one person here who may not actually know Smile )
The guide books say that one cannot drive past this without stopping to photograph it and, guess what? They're absolutely right!

We were on our way back to Fort William from Skye on the only road that joins the mainland and the Isle, when, with amazing cartographical foresight, I managed to persuade "Michael Schumacher" to throttle-back from lightspeed in time to actually stop here.
She allowed me less than 30 minutes before igniting the afterburners.

It was a bit of a grim, dull day and I only managed this shot and a seven shot panorama (which would look really silly at 600 pixels). The only break in the over cast occurred during this shot.
The consequent flat lighting propelled me into playing around a bit to wrench what I could from a pretty dull original, and there's still a bit of a halo that I haven't been able to (or couldn't spare the time to) remove.
I may work on it further at some point.

Still, what the hell. You only live once!

Enjoy, or otherwise.
Thanks for stopping by.

I like this very much
very moody, can almost feel the rain coming out of the clouds. is this an HDR style shot, or just good use of filters?

Thanks Tony. No HDR or filters. A single RAW capture, processed three times and then combined by hand in PS using (mostly successfully) masked colour and tone curves in 16 bit LAB mode, followed by some further contrast work in RGB mode.
I shot this in 2006 and only recently decided to do anything with it, thinking the original was a bit lack-lustre! It's turned out better than I expected it would.
